Janet needs more love in her life. She is sweet, very calm and initially shy but warms up quickly to friendly and walks well on a leash. She will be an easy dog to own! She is very gentle and sometimes reminds us of a bunny.
Update from foster: Janet is settling in quite well. She’s still unwinding from her lengthy stay at the shelter, which brings a bit of fatigue, making her enjoy long naps throughout the day. However, that's not stopping her from making efforts to bond with us and become our best friend. For now, Janet is perfectly happy to snooze away but absolutely adores her walks! Her excitement is palpable, and she eagerly tugs on the leash to capture all the wonderful scents around her. Once she adjusts to our daily routine and overcomes her shelter fatigue, we'll start focusing on her leash training. With her love for treats and praise, we anticipate she will learn quickly. Speaking of treats and praise, Janet takes them gently and has no food aggression whatsoever. While we eat, she prefers lounging under the dinner table instead of begging for scraps. Her responsiveness to praise is fantastic, and she easily grasps verbal commands. She’s definitely one of the smartest dogs we’ve encountered! Janet is a delightful little shadow, always close by, making her the perfect companion for anyone seeking a loyal friend. She is immensely affectionate without displaying any of the typical negative behaviors that can accompany that trait. She happily follows me around the house and is fully kennel trained, sleeping peacefully in her crate each night without issue. She is completely house trained and will let you know when she needs to go out by sitting by the door. She stands well for a shower and actually seems to enjoy it! We also introduced her to the goats, chickens, and barn cats, and she has shown great gentleness towards them. Just this morning, she even mustered the courage to give one of the goats a sneaky little kiss. With the cats, she’s making good progress and seems eager to befriend them. I've attached a video of her first inside "meet-n-greet". We had Janet lounging on the couch, with the little grey cat in the video, during a movie, and we had no worries about their growing friendship. Janet has formed a special bond with one of our male barn cats. He’s taken to approaching her and rubbing against her, and she responds with gentle affection. It’s worth noting that she tends to chase after the cats if they dart away, suggesting she has a strong prey drive, though it seems more playful than aggressive. Perhaps she just enjoys a game of tag? For now, while we’re still getting acquainted, she’ll be on a leash. We believe Janet will be a wonderful addition to any household. She’s gentle and loving, and as she becomes more comfortable, we’re catching glimpses of her personality. We think she might have a bit of a silly side, and she can be quite amusing! While she’s a little shy, especially around men, she’s already starting to seek out Joe for attention and scratches, so we’re confident that with time, she’ll overcome her initial timidity.
